We’ve just received official word from BYD: the 2026 BYD Qin L DM-i is scheduled for its official market launch on the evening of October 23rd. This update to the popular plug-in hybrid sedan focuses on refining the driving experience and enhancing its class-leading efficiency.

Here’s what we know about the incoming 2026 model.

Familiar Design, Refined Interior

Externally, the new Qin L DM-i will carry over the current model’s striking “New Wave Dragon Face Aesthetics.” The design features an exquisite front fascia with a large lower grille, giving the vehicle a wide and commanding presence. The sharp, narrow headlight clusters blend seamlessly with the illuminated, upward-sweeping “dragon whiskers,” creating a distinctive and spirited look.

The most significant changes are found inside the cabin. BYD has updated the gear selection mechanism, moving from a traditional console shifter to a modern, convenient column-mounted gear shifter.

This change simplifies the driving operation and, more importantly, frees up valuable real estate on the center console (sub-instrument panel). The area where the old shifter was located has been redesigned and simplified, resulting in a cleaner look and expanded storage space. Elsewhere, the interior retains its popular features, including the signature 15.6-inch rotating center screen.

Performance: More Electric Range

While full specifications are pending, the 2026 Qin L DM-i is expected to use the current, highly efficient DM-i powertrain. This system pairs a 1.5L engine (producing 74 kW and 126 N·m of torque) with an electric drive system. Buyers will likely still have the choice between two different motor outputs: 120 kW and 160 kW.

The key performance enhancement for the 2026 model is a boost in pure electric range, now reaching 128 kilometers. This improvement further solidifies the Qin L DM-i’s position as a leader in efficiency and daily usability.

One major question remains: will the Qin L DM-i follow its all-electric sibling, the Qin L EV, and offer a version equipped with the advanced DiSus (Cloud-Chariot) suspension system? We will have to wait for the official reveal on October 23rd to find out. We also anticipate slight adjustments to the configuration and pricing to ensure the vehicle remains highly competitive in the market.
