Spy shots have revealed the upcoming 2027 Kia EV5 facelift, which is expected to debut in 2027. The updated electric SUV is expected to receive exterior styling changes, interior technology upgrades, and improvements to its charging performance. Among the most anticipated changes is the possibility of an 800V high-voltage architecture, although Kia has not officially confirmed this upgrade yet.

The current Kia EV5 is already compatible with both 400V and 800V charging infrastructure in some markets. However, compatibility with 800V charging does not mean that the vehicle itself uses an 800V battery architecture. The 2027 facelift could bring a more significant upgrade to the EV5’s electrical system and charging capability.

Exterior: Inspired by the Weekender Concept

Recently, we obtained a set of spy shots showing the new Kia EV5 undergoing testing. As a mid-cycle facelift, the new model is expected to receive updates to its exterior, interior, and electric powertrain as Kia looks to strengthen the EV5’s competitiveness in an increasingly competitive electric SUV market.

The heavily camouflaged prototype makes it difficult to identify every design change. However, visible details suggest that the facelifted EV5 will feature a new wheel design and an updated rear bumper.

Notably, Kia previously showcased the EV5 Weekender concept at the 2025 Guangzhou Auto Show. Although the concept was developed with a stronger outdoor focus, elements of its rugged rear-bumper design appear to have influenced the upcoming standard EV5 facelift.

The overall shape of the EV5 appears to remain largely unchanged, suggesting that Kia is focusing on targeted design improvements rather than a complete redesign.

Interior: Enhanced Tech and Storage

The interior of the new Kia EV5 is also expected to continue some of the design ideas introduced by the EV5 Weekender concept.

Based on the available spy shots and current reports, the expected updates include:

• A newly designed multifunction steering wheel.
• A narrow-strip LCD instrument panel.
• An integrated continuous display combining the central infotainment screen with the passenger-side display.
• A redesigned floating center console.

These changes could improve both the EV5’s digital cabin experience and its practical storage space. The current EV5 already offers connected technology and OTA software functionality in selected markets, so the facelift could focus on creating a more integrated and modern user experience rather than simply increasing screen size.

Powertrain: The Shift to 800V

The current Kia EV5 is available with both single-motor and dual-motor configurations, depending on the market. Current versions offer maximum outputs of up to 160 kW and 233 kW, while official range figures vary by battery configuration and testing cycle.

For the facelift, Kia has not yet announced the final powertrain specifications. However, improving charging performance is expected to be one of the key areas of development.

One of the biggest potential upgrades is an 800V high-voltage architecture. If confirmed, the move could significantly improve DC fast-charging performance and shorten charging times compared with the current system.

It is important to note that an 800V architecture is different from simply supporting 800V charging infrastructure. Kia’s current EV5 can use both 400V and 800V charging systems in certain markets, while the vehicle’s battery operates in the 400V class.

The final battery capacity, charging power, charging time, and range of the facelifted EV5 have not yet been officially confirmed.
