[Official] New BYD Sea Lion 05 DM-i & EV Launching April 20

Recently, we learned that the highly anticipated new BYD Sea Lion 05 DM-i and the new Sea Lion 05 EV will officially launch on April 20. Notably, both powertrain variants will adopt a unified exterior design language.

Exterior Upgrades and Dimensions

Visually, the new Sea Lion 05 does not completely copy the design of the current EV model, though the overall style remains close.

Looking at the details, the front bumper of the new model has been optimized. The air ducts on both sides and the lower air intake have been enlarged. Furthermore, it now comes equipped with an active air intake grille.

Regarding dimensions, the new Sea Lion 05 measures 4620/1860/1630mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2770mm. This indicates a change in size compared to the current Sea Lion 05 EV. At the rear, the vehicle has undergone a complete optimization. The taillights feature a more dynamic wave-style shape, while the new rear bumper showcases a distinct crossover style.

Interior Cabin and Technology

Inside the cabin, the new models continue the current Sea Lion 05 EV’s design. It utilizes the wrap-around “Ocean Rhythm” cockpit layout.

Technologically, the interior features an adaptive rotating central control screen while practically retaining essential physical buttons. Additionally, the vehicle introduces an electronic column shifter and provides a highly convenient wireless charging pad below the center console.

Powertrain: 5th-Gen DM Technology and Upgraded EV Motors

In terms of power, the models offer two distinct, high-performance paths:

• DM-i (Plug-in Hybrid): This version continues to carry the 1.5-liter plug-in hybrid system, now upgraded to BYD’s 5th-generation DM technology. According to the MIIT declaration information, the engine’s maximum power is 74 kW, and the drive motor produces 120 kW. Buyers can choose between two battery capacities: 18.3kWh and 26.6kWh. Consequently, these provide a WLTC pure electric range of 102 kilometers and 151/155 kilometers, respectively.
• EV (Pure Electric): The EV models boast a significant power increase compared to the current generation. The low-power version delivers a maximum of 200 kW, while the high-power version reaches an impressive 240 kW. Both EV variants utilize a rear-mounted single-motor setup.
