The new Nio ES8 features the brand’s latest design language. The iconic “Double Dash” daytime running lights have been upgraded to a two-tier design. They also support three different welcome lighting effects. The car also comes with HDPL intelligent high-definition projection headlights and Smart Light Carpet 2.0. In terms of size, the new ES8 is 5280mm long, 2010mm wide, and 1800mm high. It has a 3130mm wheelbase. Compared to the 2024 model, the new ES8 is 181mm longer, 21mm wider, and 50mm taller. The wheelbase is 60mm longer. The vehicle’s classification will upgrade from a mid-to-large-size SUV to a large SUV. The car’s lower window line has a straight design. It uses flush door handles. At the rear, there is a through-type light strip with 600 LEDs and 480 SuperRed ultra-red LED particles. It is accented with high-gloss satin trim and brushed metal.
Advanced Technology and Interior
The new ES8 continues to feature a roof-mounted LiDAR unit. Additionally, it now has a wide-angle LiDAR on each front fender. It will also be equipped with 4D imaging radar, dual front-facing cameras, side cameras, and corner cameras. Its driver assistance hardware is on par with the Nio ET9. It will be powered by Nio’s self-developed Shenji NX9031 driver assistance chip and apply Nio’s World Model (NWM).
Inside, the new ES8 has big changes. It features a 48-inch Skyline display and a 16.4-inch AMOLED central screen. It also provides a 38-inch AR-HUD head-up display system with blind spot notifications. The car uses a three-spoke steering wheel and a column-mounted shifter. The center console offers dual wireless phone charging pads. It also has haptic ceramic micro-switches. The new ES8 is available in four interior color schemes: Redwood Red, Mountain Blue, Pamir Brown, and Pearl White.
Seating and Powertrain
The new ES8 offers a 2+2+2式6-seat and a 2+3+2式7-seat layout. All seats support heating. The second-row right-side seat also includes leg rest heating. The first two rows of seats support ventilation. In the 7-seat version, however, only the two outer seats in the second row have this feature. The 6-seat model comes with three zero-gravity seats. These include the front passenger seat and two in the second row. The front passenger’s seatback reclines up to 151 degrees. The second-row seats also recline to 151 degrees. The second-row right-side zero-gravity seat can also move horizontally by 150mm.
For power, the new ES8 uses an all-domain 900V architecture. It’s equipped with the same front and rear drive motors as the Nio ET9. They have a combined system output of 520 kW and 700 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.97 seconds. The vehicle comes standard with a 100 kWh battery pack. This gives it a CLTC range of 635 km. It supports a maximum charging power of 600 kW. The new ES8 also has dual-chamber air suspension. It has a vertical adjustment range of -50mm to 50mm.
Market Competition and Outlook
With its upgrade to a large SUV, the new Nio ES8 will compete with models like the AITO M8 EV (starting at ¥359,800) and the AITO M9 EV (starting at ¥509,800). The Li Auto L9 (starting at ¥409,800) is an extended-range large SUV. It will also be a potential competitor. According to sales data, the Nio ES8’s sales in August were 77 units. This was because the previous model was discontinued.
