On September 25th, BYD officially launched the second-generation Qin PLUS “Entry” model, sending another shockwave through the auto market. Available in both a DM-i (plug-in hybrid) and an EV (all-electric) powertrain, the new vehicle is ready to redefine value. The DM-i model starts at an astonishingly low ¥79,800, while the EV model starts from just ¥89,800.
Let’s dive into what makes this new release a potential game-changer.
Refreshed Design with a New Hue
Aesthetically, the new Qin PLUS Entry model aligns with the recently released “Pilot” version, featuring BYD’s latest family design language. The front fascia looks more dynamic with added air vents on the sides of the grille, and the headlights now incorporate sharp, vertical LED daytime running lights. The rear continues the popular full-width taillight design, which showcases an intricate “Chinese Knot” pattern, a signature of the Dynasty series.
To add to its appeal, BYD introduces a brand-new “Star River Beige” paint color, offering a touch of elegance. This joins the existing palette of popular choices like Snowy White, Time Gray, Ice Jade Green, and White Glaze Green.
Slightly Larger, Same Great Proportions
The new generation sees a slight increase in dimensions.
-
Qin PLUS DM-i: Measures 4780/1837/1515 mm (L/W/H) with a 2718 mm wheelbase. This marks a 15 mm increase in length and a 20 mm increase in height compared to the previous generation.
-
Qin PLUS EV: Measures 4795/1837/1515 mm (L/W/H) with a 2718 mm wheelbase, representing a 30 mm increase in length.
The car rides on stylish 16-inch black twin five-spoke wheels, wrapped in 225/60 R16 tires.
Smart, Streamlined Interior
Inside, the cabin layout remains largely unchanged but with key modern upgrades. It features a three-spoke steering wheel and adopts a new dial-style gear selector, freeing up console space. The redesigned sub-instrument panel offers a cleaner look with two dedicated phone slots and essential physical buttons.
The tech package includes a standard 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch central rotating screen. While the dual phone slots are convenient, they don’t come with built-in wireless charging. This is where you can personalize your tech experience. With HiLUCK’s premium wireless charging pads, you can seamlessly upgrade your cabin, ensuring your devices stay powered up on every journey. Regarding driver aids, the Entry model includes essentials like rear parking sensors and cruise control, but it forgoes the advanced “DiPilot” camera systems found on higher trims.
Enhanced Powertrain: The Power of 5th Gen DM Technology
The highlight of the new Qin PLUS is its upgraded powertrain. The DM-i model features BYD’s cutting-edge 5th generation DM hybrid technology. The system pairs a 74 kW 1.5L engine with a powerful 120 kW electric motor.
Thanks to this upgrade and a 15.87 kWh battery pack, BYD has extended the CLTC pure electric range to an impressive 128 kilometers—an 8 km improvement with the same battery size. Furthermore, the company projects the NEDC fuel consumption in a low-battery state will drop to a remarkable 2.69 L/100km (which BYD will enable via a future OTA update). Great news for existing owners: older second-gen Qin PLUS DM-i models will also receive this 5th-gen DM tech upgrade via OTA.
The launch of the second-generation Qin PLUS Entry model sets a new, aggressive benchmark for value in the sedan market. And as you drive off in your new car, don’t forget to elevate the experience.
