Recently, more information about the Hongqi HS6 PHEV came to light. This new mid-to-large-size SUV will feature a 1.5T plug-in hybrid system and offer two battery options. The official maximum all-electric range is 205km. According to previous reports, Hongqi expects to launch the HS6 PHEV within the year.
Powertrain and Battery Options
The Hongqi HS6 PHEV runs on a 1.5T plug-in hybrid system. The 1.5T engine has a maximum power of 110 kW, giving the car a top speed of 205 km/h. The vehicle offers two lithium iron phosphate battery options from Jiangsu Zhenli Xinneng Battery Technology Co. Ltd.: a 23.9 kWh pack and a 39.5 kWh pack.
The model with the 23.9 kWh battery achieves a CLTC pure electric range of 123km. Meanwhile, the model with the 39.5 kWh battery offers two CLTC pure electric range options: 190km and 205km. The vehicle’s curb weight ranges from 2040 kg to 2285 kg.
Exterior Design and Dimensions
Based on previously released regulatory filings, the front fascia of the Hongqi HS6 PHEV continues the brand’s family-style design. This includes the vertical-slat grille and the signature red flag emblem on the hood. The grille now has a closed-off design, with a small air intake at the bottom of the front bumper. The car also features a new single-piece headlight design, moving away from the split-headlight style found on many current Hongqi models.
For its other features, the Hongqi HS6 PHEV uses traditional door handles instead of a flush-mounted design. The rear of the vehicle no longer has a through-type taillight and features a hidden exhaust layout. The dimensions are 4925mm in length, 1970mm in width, and 1740mm in height, with a 2925mm wheelbase. The regulatory filings for the new model show a five-seat configuration.
Market Position and Competition
Based on its name, the Hongqi HS6 PHEV will likely slot below the Hongqi HS7 PHEV in the brand’s lineup. It will target the competitive ¥200,000-¥300,000 market. This segment already includes popular mid-to-large-size plug-in hybrid SUVs like the BYD Tang L DM (starting at ¥229,800), the GAC Trumpchi ES9 PHEV (starting at ¥229,800), and the Lynk & Co 09 EM-P (starting at ¥275,800).
To get a sense of its potential, we can look at the sales of other Hongqi PHEV models. The Hongqi HS3 PHEV was the brand’s top-selling plug-in hybrid in August, with 4,782 units sold.
Given the new model’s features and market positioning, what sales performance do you think the Hongqi HS6 PHEV will achieve after its launch? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
