Your Global Sourcing Partner for China EVs

Official images of the all-new BMW iX3 have leaked, with the car set for its global premiere on the evening of September 5th. It will also be on display at the Munich Auto Show on September 8th. The China-exclusive version will appear later this year and go into local production in 2026. This model will achieve a groundbreaking CLTC range of over 900 km. The new iX3 is built on BMW’s new all-electric platform (NCAR), featuring a revolutionary electrical architecture, a panoramic iDrive system, a unique “driving superbrain,” and new large cylindrical batteries. This is a new generation of electric vehicles with comprehensive innovations in exterior, interior, and powertrain. BMW plans to launch over 20 new cars in China between 2026 and 2027.

Exterior Design

The new BMW iX3 introduces an innovative design. Its front fascia pays tribute to the 1960s BMW 1500, with classic elements like vertical kidney grilles, “Angel Eyes” headlights, and the Hofmeister kink. The headlights and grille are integrated into a single unit, and the front bumper has an aggressive, sporty design. The overall front end features multiple three-dimensional angles, creating a sense of flowing, sculpted motion.

The new iX3 also features hidden door handles and large-sized wheels. The D-pillar is wide and robust. In terms of dimensions, the new BMW iX3 measures 4780mm in length, 1895mm in width, and 1635mm in height, with a 2895mm wheelbase.

The rear features new horizontal taillights that are wider and split by the central logo. The rear bumper also has a sporty look with a strong visual impact. The downward-sloping rear spoiler works to reduce drag.

Interior & Technology

The new BMW iX3 will be the first to feature the Panoramic iDrive system. This system uses ultra-short-throw projection technology to create a nearly 40-inch, 4K resolution projected image on the windshield. It has a contrast ratio of 100,000:1. Paired with a nano-coated windshield, its light reflection rate is double the industry standard, allowing drivers to see navigation and vehicle information clearly, even with polarized sunglasses. The image is projected between 4 to 9 meters away, merging with the real-world view and providing a sense of true depth.

BMW has carefully calibrated the China-specific iX3 models for space, comfort, and intelligent driving. For example, the sixth-generation eDrive technology will help the China-made version achieve a CLTC range of over 900 km. In addition, BMW has collaborated with leading Chinese tech companies. They have integrated AI large model capabilities from Alibaba and DeepSeek and partnered with Huawei’s HarmonyOS ecosystem to offer digital services like BMW Digital Key and HUAWEI HiCar. They also worked with Momenta to develop an intelligent driving solution highly optimized for Chinese road conditions.

Powertrain & Battery

The 50 xDrive model has a front asynchronous motor and a rear externally excited synchronous motor, forming a four-wheel-drive system. It can add over 350 km of range in just 10 minutes of charging. For its battery, the iX3 uses large cylindrical cells co-developed with CATL and Eve Energy. This battery technology boosts energy density by 20%, increases driving range by 30%, and improves charging speed by 30%.
