Import BYD Dolphin G DM-i: Official Specs & European Launch

The highly anticipated BYD Dolphin G DM-i has officially launched. Specifically designed for Europe, this sporty plug-in hybrid made its global debut in Berlin this June. Subsequently, the vehicle captivated audiences at the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.
BYD’s Customized Strategy for Europe

BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li recently shared crucial insights regarding their global expansion. She confirmed that the Dolphin G represents the very first product designed specifically for European buyers. Moving forward, BYD plans to design and build more vehicles tailored to local consumer demands. In fact, BYD will manufacture the Dolphin G directly at its new European plant in Hungary. Therefore, the brand has shifted away from simply shipping standard Chinese-spec models abroad.
Exterior Styling and Marine Aesthetics
Rear Sporty Upgrades

The official release clearly showcases the distinctive “Dolphin G” badge on the rear tailgate. The hatchback features through-type taillights that perfectly continue BYD’s signature Marine Aesthetics design philosophy. However, the overall shape delivers a much sportier vibe than the standard electric version. For instance, it includes a dynamic rear roof spoiler and a significantly thicker, aggressive rear bumper.
Proportions and Front End

Regarding the side profile, the vehicle utilizes short front and rear overhangs mated to a long wheelbase. This clever layout provides a spacious interior cabin despite taking up a compact footprint similar to a VW Polo or Toyota Yaris. Additionally, it sports distinctive e-shaped headlights inspired by the BYD Seal sedan, which strongly enhances its athletic appearance.

Inside, the cabin adopts an ultra-minimalist yet tech-heavy style. The dashboard houses a massive 12.8-inch floating central touchscreen. Furthermore, the Comfort trim introduces Google built-in services, ensuring European drivers enjoy seamless connectivity. Additionally, the car includes an 8.8-inch digital driver display to keep crucial information easily visible.
Hybrid Engine Specifications and Range

In terms of performance, the Dolphin G features BYD’s advanced fifth-generation DM-i (Dual Mode) system. This plug-in hybrid setup combines an efficient 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with a powerful electric motor, delivering a combined output of up to 209 hp. Most importantly, the larger 18.3 kWh Blade battery provides up to 65 miles of pure electric driving. Consequently, the vehicle achieves an impressive combined range exceeding 1,000 km (over 621 miles).
