Recently, new information was published in China’s MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) catalog. This catalog, the 23rd batch for NEV purchase tax exemption, revealed key specs for the new BYD Yuan PLUS.

The headline news is that the new model will be equipped with a 74.88 kWh battery pack. As a result, it will achieve an incredible CLTC range of 650 kilometers. This model was previously filed with the MIIT.

A Major Platform & Performance Upgrade

This appears to be a major mid-cycle update, not just a simple refresh. The filings show the new Yuan PLUS moves to a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (model TZ200XYC).

• This new motor has a maximum power of 230 kW (308 hp).
• This is a massive performance jump from the current model’s 150 kW front-wheel-drive motor.

Further supporting this platform change, the charging port has been moved. It is no longer on the front-right fender but has been relocated to the rear-right fender. This change almost certainly indicates a new and upgraded electrical architecture.

According to the MIIT information, the new Yuan PLUS is a mid-cycle refresh with minor exterior design adjustments. The vehicle’s dimensions are 4455mm (L), 1875mm (W), and 1615mm (H), with a 2720mm wheelbase. These are identical to the current model.

In addition, the car will offer 18-inch wheels with two tire options: 215/55R18 and 235/50R18. The curb weight is 1880 kg, and the top speed is 180 km/h.
