On August 23rd, Geely’s Galaxy brand officially opened pre-sales for its new large SUV, the Galaxy M9, with a starting price of 193,800 RMB. This vehicle, built on the GEA Evo architecture, showcases the brand’s latest design language. It features a 6-seat layout and comes equipped with the Flyme Auto 2 vehicle system and a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The M9 is scheduled for an official market launch in September.
Exterior Design and Dimensions
The Geely Galaxy M9 made its global debut in Milan, Italy, this past May. First, it adopts the latest Galaxy family design style with a closed-off front fascia and a connected light bar. In addition, the front bumper has an active grille. In terms of lighting functions, the Galaxy M9 features LED matrix headlights that offer adaptive anti-glare (ADB) and dynamic steering (AFS) functions.
Next, let’s look at its dimensions. The Galaxy M9 measures 5205mm long, 1999mm wide, and 1800mm high, with a wheelbase of 3030mm. Therefore, its size is similar to the Lynk & Co 900 and Deepal S09. Finally, the rear features a connected taillight design, and the rear bumper has a faux dual-exit exhaust, though the real one is a hidden design.
Advanced Interior and Smart Tech
Inside the car, we find the Galaxy M9 offers two color options: orange and white. The dashboard features a 12.66-inch embedded LCD instrument cluster and a 30-inch integrated central and passenger screen. Also, the car uses a column-mounted shifter, and the center console provides a 50W dual-phone wireless charging pad.
The Galaxy M9 is the first vehicle to feature Geely’s new Flyme Auto 2 system. This system includes a more human-like voice assistant, Eva. Specifically, it can recognize users through voiceprints and speak multiple dialects. Moreover, it can deeply analyze user questions and provide well-thought-out travel plans. Flyme Auto 2 retains original features like desktop widgets and seamless mobile-to-vehicle integration, with further optimizations to enhance the user experience.
Premium Features and Driver Assistance
In terms of features, the Galaxy M9 offers a range of premium items, including a 9.1-liter warm/cold storage box, a 17.3-inch 3K rear ceiling screen, a 27-speaker sound system, and tray tables for the second row. The second-row seats offer ventilation, heating, massage, and an SVIP executive mode.
Regarding driver assistance, the Galaxy M9 is equipped with a comprehensive sensor suite: one roof-mounted LiDAR, 11 high-definition cameras, three millimeter-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic radars. It features the Qianli Haohan H5 driver assistance system, which enables navigation assist on both highways and city streets, as well as multi-scenario parking assist. We are excited about this level of technology in the M9. In fact, at HiLUCK, we are committed to bringing these innovative new energy vehicles to the global market. Furthermore, the Galaxy M9 also features a unique “drift parking” function. This allows the car to essentially “drift” its rear end into a parking spot when the front is already positioned inside, keeping the front wheel mostly stationary while using the rear wheels to smoothly maneuver the tail in.
Powertrain and Chassis
When it comes to the powertrain, the Galaxy M9 features a plug-in hybrid system with a 1.5T engine and three electric motors. The 1.5T engine has a maximum power of 120kW, and the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in an official 4.5 seconds. According to MIIT filings, the M9 will come with two battery options: 18.4kWh and 41.46kWh. The 18.4kWh battery model offers an 85km pure electric range, while the 41.46kWh battery provides 170km or 185km of pure electric range (test conditions are not specified).
As for the chassis, the Galaxy M9 uses a front double-wishbone and rear five-link suspension setup. It is also equipped with CCD continuously variable damping shock absorbers and a dual-chamber closed-air suspension with an adjustable height of up to 95mm.
All in all, considering the previously revealed 250,000 RMB price range, the Galaxy M9 competes with other new energy large SUVs like the Deepal S09, Lixiang L90, and GAC Hyper HL. The M9’s plug-in hybrid system is its main differentiator in this market. We will continue to follow this exciting new vehicle.
