Finally a Makeover: Spy Shots of the Suspected New BYD Song MAX

Recently, we obtained spy shots of a suspected new BYD Song MAX. The Song MAX stands as a veteran MPV model for BYD. Currently, BYD sells this car not only domestically but also exports it overseas. However, the domestic model has not seen a new release since 2022. The currently on-sale model shows its age, remaining one of the few BYD vehicles that the company has not updated recently.

Exterior: A Facelift, Not a Generation Change

Judging from these spy shots, the new model represents a facelift rather than a full generation change.

• Front Design: First, designers optimized the front grille, though we cannot yet identify the specific style. The air intake ducts on both sides also received optimization, showcasing a more exaggerated shape. The headlights remain unchanged.
• Rear Design: The main changes to the exterior concentrate on the front and rear. The styling of the rear is quite intriguing; it returns to the design style used before the 2019 facelift. Therefore, we cannot rule out the possibility that BYD created this model for the “e-series”, specifically targeting the ride-hailing market.

Interior: Significant Shift to Column Gear Selector

Regarding the interior, we currently see non-production kit parts, so this may not represent the final style. However, the main changes include:

• Steering Wheel: A switch to a steering wheel featuring the BYD LOGO.
• Gear Shifter: The removal of the central gear shift area. The car now uses a column shifter (stalk shifter).
• Console: The center console adds a wireless charging panel and adopts a new control button area.

Powertrain: Expected 5th Gen DM Technology

In terms of power, we expect the new car to introduce the fifth-generation DM technology. This upgrade will likely achieve an increase in pure electric range and a decrease in fuel consumption when running on a depleted battery, making vehicle usage more economical.
