On August 21, at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, the SAIC-Volkswagen ID.ERA 5X made its official public debut. The new electric SUV is equipped with a new LiDAR sensor and powered by the advanced “Xingyun Zhixing” (Cloud-Driving) intelligent driving assistance system. Significantly, the ID.ERA 5X marks Volkswagen’s first global mass-production model built on the CMP platform and powered by the cutting-edge CEA (China Electronic Architecture). According to official announcements, the vehicle will officially hit the market this November.

In terms of exterior styling, the ID.ERA 5X continues the design language of the ID.ERA family. Up front, it features a full-width daytime running light bar centering around the illuminated Volkswagen logo, with the main headlight clusters integrated into the lower flanks.

The side profile displays a sporty fastback silhouette complemented by a roof spoiler at the rear. The rear styling also adheres to family design cues, utilizing a clean, minimalist layout with full-width taillights that give the compact SUV an agile, athletic appearance.

Intelligent Hardware & Cockpit System

On the intelligence front, the ID.ERA 5X is equipped with the “Xingyun Zhixing” assisted driving system backed by high-precision LiDAR hardware. This setup enables end-to-end, all-scenario Urban NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) capabilities. In addition, the vehicle continues the smart interactive experience of the “Yunqi” intelligent cabin, delivering an intuitive, smooth human-machine interface for daily driving.

In terms of dimensions, the vehicle measures 4,560 mm in length, 1,896 mm in width, and 1,630 mm in height, with a 2,815 mm wheelbase. Buyers can choose from 17-, 18-, and 19-inch alloy wheels. Optional configurations include:
