Real-World Debut: New BYD Sea Lion 05 DM-i Adds 26.6kWh Battery
Recently, the new BYD Sea Lion 05 DM-i made its official real-world debut. As a facelifted model, it had previously completed its declaration with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Overall, the exterior design remains consistent with the pure electric version. Most notably, it adds a new 26.6kWh battery pack. According to the MIIT declaration, this yields a WLTC pure electric range of 155 kilometers.
Exterior: Dynamic Ocean Aesthetics
Visually, the new car maintains BYD’s signature “Ocean Aesthetics” design. It boasts dynamic and compact attributes while remaining highly recognizable.
The Sea Lion 05 DM-i continues the “Ocean Ripple” design concept. Specifically, the front end features a closed grille paired with a through-type LED light strip. Furthermore, the headlights on both sides look sharp with clear internal structures. Below, the bumper incorporates an outward-flaring longitudinal air duct design to strengthen the sporty atmosphere.
Dimensions and Profile
In terms of size, the new Sea Lion 05 DM-i measures 4620/1860/1630mm in length, width, and height. The wheelbase sits at 2770mm, positioning it firmly as a compact SUV. Interestingly, there is a clear size difference compared to the current model. For reference, the current Sea Lion 05 DM-i measures 4726/1880/1720mm with a 2712mm wheelbase.
Moving to the side, the body lines flow smoothly. It comes equipped with semi-hidden door handles, smoked window trims, and a split D-pillar design. Consequently, this creates a stylish floating roof effect. Additionally, the new car rolls on 18-inch dual-tone petal-style wheels, while smoked trim panels on the side skirts enhance visual depth.
Rear Design and Interior Cabin
At the rear, the design is clean and full. It adopts a smoked through-type taillight assembly. The internal structure integrates the brand’s exclusive light source, featuring a central “BYD” logo that is highly recognizable when illuminated. Above, it utilizes a segmented spoiler. Finally, the thick rear bumper and hidden exhaust layout perfectly echo the front-end style.
Inside the cabin, the Sea Lion 05 DM-i adopts a wrap-around “Ocean Rhythm” design. The overall vibe is simple and warm, prioritizing a balance between family comfort and a sense of technology. For example, it offers interior colors like Almond Beige. The seats and center console feature large areas of soft-touch materials. Coupled with delicate stitching and chrome decorations, the tactile feel perfectly matches its market positioning.
Technologically, the new car packs an embedded full LCD instrument panel alongside an adaptive rotating floating central screen. A through-type trim panel covers the area around the screen, simplifying the physical button layout to just a horizontal row of core functions. Moreover, the steering wheel uses a three-spoke flat-bottom design, and the car features an electronic column shifter. For daily convenience, the center console area includes dual wireless charging pads for smartphones.
Powertrain and Range
Regarding power, the new car continues to utilize a 1.5-liter plug-in hybrid system. According to the MIIT declaration information, the engine’s maximum power is 74 kW, while the drive motor’s maximum power is 120 kW.
Crucially, two power battery capacities were declared: 18.3kWh and 26.6kWh. Correspondingly, the WLTC pure electric range reaches 102 kilometers and 151/155 kilometers. We will continue to monitor and share more information about this exciting new release.
