Recently, the real car of the BYD Sea Lion 08 was officially unveiled. The new model will serve as the flagship SUV of BYD’s Ocean Series, offering both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and pure electric (EV) powertrains. It comes equipped with the second-generation Blade Battery, flash charging technology, and the “God’s Eye” 5.0 advanced intelligent driving assistance system, with the pure electric version achieving a maximum CLTC range of 900 km. Blind pre-orders for the new vehicle are now open, and it will officially launch in August.

Exterior Design

In terms of exterior styling, the Sea Lion 08 continues the marine aesthetics design language seen on the Ocean S concept car. The front end is equipped with wave-style daytime running lights and vertically arranged split crystal-textured headlights, while retaining a functional lower air intake grille. The roof is equipped with LiDAR, supporting the God’s Eye 5.0 advanced intelligent driving assistance system.

The side profile features a full-length waistline and semi-hidden door handles. In terms of dimensions, the new car measures 5,115 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,030 mm, and offers a variety of wheel designs. The full-width taillights echo the front daytime running lights, featuring BYD’s signature wave lighting elements within the light housing.

Interior & Luxurious Rear-Seat Experience

Inside, the new vehicle adopts the Ocean Series wrap-around cockpit layout, equipped with a 15.6-inch floating central touchscreen, a large LCD instrument cluster integrated seamlessly into the dash panel, and a Head-Up Display (HUD) system. The cabin is fitted with a newly designed, stylish three-spoke steering wheel. The interior places strong emphasis on materials and atmosphere, incorporating diffuse ambient lighting while retaining physical shortcut buttons on the center console.

The rear passenger compartment is equipped with a 21.4-inch ceiling-mounted screen, paired with a 25-speaker Devialet audio system, an on-board smart refrigerator, a multifunction control screen, and rear fold-down tray tables. The vehicle adopts a 6-seat layout, with the second row featuring laterally sliding zero-gravity seats that support ventilation, heating, and massage functions.

Chassis and Powertrain Specifications

In terms of powertrain and chassis technology, the new car is equipped with the second-generation Blade Battery, CTB (Cell-to-Body) battery integration technology, flash charging technology, and the 5th-generation DM hybrid system. The chassis setup includes rear-wheel steering, the DiSus-A (Cloud Chariot-A) intelligent body control system, dual-chamber air suspension, and a road-preview scanning system.

• Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV): Powered by a 1.5T plug-in hybrid system with an engine output of 115 kW. It is available in both single-motor (200 kW) and dual-motor AWD versions (200 kW front + 200 kW rear). Under WLTC conditions, the pure electric range is 275 km and 300 km, while the maximum CLTC pure electric range reaches 400 km.
• Pure Electric (EV): Offers three powertrain configurations, including two single-motor versions (320 kW and 370 kW) and one dual-motor AWD version (215 kW front + 370 kW rear). Battery options include 92.093 kWh and 115.072 kWh, corresponding to CLTC driving ranges of 710 km, 800 km, and 900 km.
